Hi

A technique I have found that often works is to hold the system builder tightly around the gills and shake hard.

Works for me. NO, sorry works WITH me.     :D

The main names that I am researching into at the moment are Cadman,(originating from Bulkington, Warwickshire), Smedley, (Leicestershire and Derbyshire), Paynes (Leicestershire, Yorkshire and Derbyshire) and Udall - you will also find several other names on my web page. I look forward to E-Mails from anyone who would like to share or talk about our family history.

Just a thought, since Brian mentioned "overheating processor" and you seem to have been taking it out and putting it back several times by the sound of it, is there still thermal compound between the processor and the fan heatsink block.

Hi Andy

"It did not reboot. In each case computers totally shuts off instantly as if the power had been cut off"

If the machine does not reach the point where you can enter "setup"
then it sounds like memory.

You have 8gb = 2x4gb chips?
Try with just 1x4gb
Taking out slot 2, power up
Then take out slot 1 and put whatever was in slot 2 in 1, power up

Thanks again.

Moving the Ram around is probably the next step.

However, as I did not put the machine together I have now sent it back to were it came from, in the hope that it comes back fixed.

When it was working, which could be up to two or three hours, it was a wonderful machine to to use.

Going back to may old computer to type this is like going back to a different age.

Will let you know the outcome.
