10 Regent Street Coventry

My father's birth certificate says that he was born at 10 Regent Street Coventry in 1903. I had assumed that the address was that of a maternity home or something similar. Having looked on the 1901 census for the address, I find the address is a private house. The family there in 1901 have no connection to our family as far as I know. I suppose she might have been working there as a domestic servant but would the family have allowed her to stay there until the child was born?
