Sands Pastoral Directory 1897

Name of Owner : J Dunne
Station: South Wood Tarramia
Post Town: Mulwala
Stock District: Corowa (a very very long way from the Qld border ! perhaps the most distant place from Mungindi yet still within NSW)

Name of Owner : J Dunne, Ex of
Station : Nitley
Post Town : Menindie
Stock District : Menindie (not as far from Walgett as it may first seem)

Unfortunately, this particular resource is NOT keyword searchable, and is a list by surname of OWNER, and as it is from 1897, I have NOT looked for “Norah” in the many pages.

errr....

1897 Sands Pastoral Dir

After many pages of skimming, (so I could have missed some)

Name of Owner :  J Woodlock
Station : Nora  (NORA v NORAH)
Post Town : Warren
Stock District : Cannonbar

Now that's the closest I can find, out by decades and umm a Stock District or three  ::)  It was on the second last page of some 45 pages  :P

Gosh you have all been busy - many thanks.

Sorry I've been waylaid today but will try to answer some questions.

Thanks for the 1913 ER's JM - Alice was in Walgett after marriage, and that's where their children were born (Merlin has the right marriage)

They were married St Barnabus CofE Chruch in George St Sydney. I understand that the church burnt down but haven't followed up to see if PR's may be available elsewhere.

The witnesses where Alfred's bro (or one of his family members) and the other was Thos. Bligh. I can't find much about this guy and have ask my cousin if she has any further info about him.
I have also asked her to join RC and help with the bits and pieces that I've missed.

Golly gosh JM - an actual property called Nora (or similar) OK, so it might be a short  ;) distance from Mungindi but at least one existed. Great find.

Where exactly is the Cannonbar stock district? I believe that Alice said that she was the Barwon River - obviously a rather large area  ::) but would it run through the Cannonbar stock district?
(drats - can't find my NSW map - just when I REALLY need it!)

Many thanks for everyones help  :-*

Cannnonbar Stock District could have been up as far as the Border, but Cannonbar itself as per Grevilles ( ;D ) 1875 ... Police district of Dubbo (it too was huge territory) and in the NSW County of OXLEY, 352 miles west of Sydney.

Diocese of Sydney should have the parish registers  ;D
