Hi

Not sure where the Hedley Street, Gosforth comes in. Was Elizabeth born there or living there at some stage?  It's a long way from Benwell:

Hi

I see her death registration: Elizabeth Mcneill, June q, 1963, Newcastle upon Tyne, 1b 123, aged 87 but I can't find a marriage of an Elizabeth Irving to a McNeill at the moment. There are possibles on the census but not born Gosforth or the Tyneside area.

Was the death at Hedley Street?

Do you have the marriage ref, please,  as it would help find them on any censuses.

Hi gnu, it seems Elizabeth was born at Benfell, but lived at Hedley Street for a long time. I haven't found evidence of a marriage to a McNeill yet.
I would like to find out when the family actually moved to Hedley Street.
The 1911 census shows her as a widow living at Ashfield Road Gosforth.
She died in 1963 in Gosforth.

Hi jeanmarie

I live in Gosforth so know the area reasonably well. I'm not sure if you can get full details of when they moved - if they bought the house it would likely be a land registry record. If they rented (and there were a lot of rented houses ), I think the only way would be electoral rolls and you'd need to go painstakingly through them year by year.

Who was the informant at her death?

Is the only evidence that you have that it's the correct Elizabeth from the census details?

hi gnu, lovely to hear back so quickly! This person was my great grandmother who I remember visiting many times as a child from Birmingham.  62 Hedley Street was on a corner , abig 2 or 3 storied Victorian style house.
Since my parents haved passed away I decided to do a bit of research but have found on my mother's side there appears to be a lack of marriages, but various siblings with differing surnames!
My grandmother remained McNeill until 1943 when she married an Edward Murray in Birmingham. She had two children whilst in Gosforth, that I know of, my mother Lilian Lamb McNeill...(where does Lamb come from? possibly her father)  and  a son called Jack or John Graham.

I have lots of papers to go through from my mother's belongings so there could be more certificates or information there., I have plenty of work to do I think :)

I'd go through the papers very slowly and carefully. It could be a treasure trove of information - maybe even wills which woud list family connections.

I think that obtaining your mother's birth and marriage certs might help with the identification of her father.
