Great stuff China...thanks for that...I couldn't work the hands out either....but it's got to be one of the Mum's and one of the boys hands holding the book...or...she's an unmarried Mother of two and a contortionist

Wonderful photos. Are they your ancestors Carol?

It looks like the boy in holding the book, but the woman (presumably mother) is supporting it, with her hand across the boy's right shoulder.

I may be looking at this weirdly, but does the girl's left hand look unusual? Is it partially covered by the fabric of her dress or am I seeing things? Her wrist looks kinof distorted ....  I love the way that her 'stockings' are wrinkled at the knees and you can see a bit of her leg.
