Looking for Charles Dougherty
« on: Wednesday 11 January 12 21:06 GMT (UK) »
I have the marriage of Robert Dougherty age 30 Shoemaker.  Father:Charles Dougherty (dec) Farmer

Robert married Margaret Bunting a widow on 11 Feb 1878 @ St Bart's Salford,Lancashire.
He originally moved from the Isle of Man & was a Saddlers App. living 35 Kirby St Everton,Liverpool 1861.
By the 1871c he was recorded at the Infantry Barracks in Salford. The Barracks were in the area where Margaret Bunting lived with 2 of her children.

I would like to find details of Robert Dougherty's family. Parents/siblings if possible & the place on the Isle of Man where he came from.

Any info would be appreciated

Maybe this in 1851?

Reference HO107. Piece 2524, Folio 278, Page 17
Ballaure, Maughold, Isle of Man

Dougherdy, Charles  Head  M  33  Farmer of 18 Acres  <no place of birth?>
Dougherdy, Elizabeth  Wife  F  30
Dougherdy, Margaret Ann  Daughter  F  8
Dougherdy, Charles  Son  M  6
Dougherdy, Elizabeth  Daughter  F  4
Dougherdy, Robert  Son  M  2
Dougherdy, Jane  Daughter  F  1          All, except Charles snr, born Maughold

But that doesn't fit with your 1861 census?

Reference RG09, 2710, 3, 3
35 Kirby Street, Everton, Liverpool

Dougherty, Edward  Head  M  Single  24  Joiner  b Douglas, Isle of Man
Dougherty, Jane  Mother  Widow  57  b Douglas
Dougherty, Robert  Brother  M  18  Saddler Apprentice  b Douglas
Dougherty, Margaret  Sister  F  14  Scholar  b Douglas
Dougherty, Isabella  Sister  F  12  Scholar  b Douglas
Fitzpatrick, Alice  Neice  F  3  b Douglas
Collister, Edward  Boarder  M  18  Joiner Apprentice  b Douglas
Harris, William  Boarder  M  27  Coach Smith  b Dublin

This family (Jane, mother, Edward, Robert, Margaret & Isabella) are incorrectly transcribed as Gaugherty in 1851 (HO107, 2525, 338, 64) BUT the father is a William

is there confusion with 1871 census - robert looks son of Charles + Elizth Kneale m Maughold 18411127
Charles is I think son of patrick D + Margt Christian but bapt Bride 1814-07-03 - his mo Margt is buried Bride 1816 but he is however cconsisten with age 23 in 1841 33 in 51 42 in 61 (where gives bapt as Bride)  - farming at Ballure which is just on southern boundary of ramsey - 1st child bapt Ramsey (possibly later are also bapt there)

the Edward + Jane fit family of Wm Daugherty (various spellings) + Jane Cannell m m Braddan 18290503  but no Robert I can see in this family
any thing with a Manx Connection

Looking at what you have found I think that he person who gave me the 1861c which shows Robt as a Saddlers apprentice in Everton,Liverpool is incorrect.
I have had a private message which clearly shows the 1861c for Maughold,I of Man & Robert is still at home with parents age 12.Father is Charles Dougherty & Mother Elizabeth.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

As you will see from my reply to KGarrard it appears you are correct.Charles & Elizabeth Dougherty appear to be the correct parents for my Robert Dougherty.
The new info I have been confirms Charles was b.Bride
Kind regards
