Mary Galvin

Mary Galvin was born in Kildare about 1864. She appears in the English census of 1881 as the adopted daughter of Mary Walsh. Mary Galvin then married in 1887 to George Hoddie in Barton Upon Irwell, Manchester.

What is the best way to trace Mary's birth in Kildare?

your first problem is the estimated date of birth - it's the year civil registration started. Not all births were registered in the early years. The Irish BMD Index is available on the Familysearch website - see the Introduction topic link below.

Any idea what part of Co. Kildare she came from ?
This might help narrow down the possible list.

What details did Mary give for her father on her marriage cert ?

see :  Introduction to Irish Records

This is the marriage - have you ordered the cert to get her father's name ?

Name: George Edward Hoddy
Date : Oct-Nov-Dec 1887
District: Barton upon Irwell
County: Lancashire
Volume: 8c
Page : 857
