2 Lincoln Queries
« on: Wednesday 18 January 12 11:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
1. Can anyone tell me where Resrvoir St and Reservoir Road were, in relation to Burton Road ?
2. Why was that area known as Castle Dykings ?

Reservoir Street still exists http://tinyurl.com/6tbqbkd

If you zoom out a bit and look to the left, you'll see the south end of Burton Rd.

If you look at the 1888 1:500 map here you'll see the reservoir that gave the street its name www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=497382,372065

Hi,  Geoff-E,
Many thanks for the information, which is very helpful.
If I can ask you another question, where were the New Barracks (including Military Hospital)? This is the address on the 1911 Census.
Regards
Bob.

I see what is now Museum of Lincolnshire Life has been labelled "Old Barracks" on Google Maps http://tinyurl.com/7arjfw6

This makes me think that the Sobraon Barracks, built 1880 - also on the Burton Road, but further north - would probably be the New Barracks http://www.thelincolnshireregiment.org/sobraon.shtml
