Anyone going to the Berkshire Records Office?
« on: Thursday 12 May 05 12:39 BST (UK) »
If anyone is visiting the Berkshire Records I would really, really appreciate a lookup for Thomas Tagg born c 1786 Sandhurst - if he's not there at least I can remove that possibility - I have already tried Hurst without success and understand he had property at Sandhurst so thought it might be worth a look.

Hi,
I've just seen your request, I am going on Tuesday next week, but I have already today offered to 4 other requests if some of them don't get back to me I can do yours, if not next time - any good? I go almost weekly, sometimes every other week.

Whenever would be absolutely wonderful!  I have been looking for this chap for a long time without success so a week or two is nothing.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

hello Gill,
I went today to the BRO, here are my findings:
BRO Ref: T/R 378  D/P 102.
Sandhurst Parish Records.
A photocopy exists of Parish Records for Sandhurst, Baptisms 1696 -1812, Marriages 1696-1753 and Burials 1696-1812, with a partial transcription, and index. to Baptisms 1771 - 1794 and Burials 1770-1794.
Notes -  Quote"Parish Records subject to Water Damage, there is B.T.'s available except for 1771-1793 for Burials and Baptisms."
I searched 1771-1794 in the Photcopied Records, these are a transcription on one side and the other facing page is the photocopy (sometimes only a little bit remains) of the original that has been damaged..  Entries are not complete (presumably because of damage to original), there are missing 1st names, missing surnames.
For 1786 there are 3 entries by J.Richards Minister St Michaels Sandhurst
John Ridgers son of Robert and Mary Ridgers was born Jan 7
and baptized February 4th
Mary Cox daur of Robert and Jane Cox was born on 1st and baptized June 4th
Elizabeth Justice daur of Matthew and Sarah Justice was born Dec 19th and baptized June 11th 1786.
No entries in all of the years for any Taggs, baptisms or burials.
I then checked the B.T.'s transcription but missing 1771-1793 no Taggs.
I then checked the 1841 Census for Sandhurst for you,
HO 107/28/5  pages 1-14.  I didn't see any Taggs.
Sorry, at least you know

Thanks ever so much for trying - at least as you say it is less ground for me to cover!
