Sarah Carr of Glossop went to Africa- says Eyam vicar
« on: Thursday 19 January 12 23:10 GMT (UK) »
Eyam parish register tells us quite a lot:
Sarah Carr was born 18 June 1858 [Buxton or Litton Dale]
Parents were: Hugh Carr and Anne [formerly Bagshaw]
Baptised: 21 Jan 1877, at Eyam, then living at Glossop

I have checked the microfilm and it adds 'left Eyam 22 Jan for Griqualand West, S Africa'

this is a very helpful hint to say the least!  [My additions are in square brackets]

I just wonder if she was going out as a missionary or to marry a Derbyshire man?  I have combed through some Kimberley baptisms helpfully online for 1877-1883 and there are some possible husbands, but equally she might have died out there.  If any Chatter can alert me to likely shipping record sources, that would be helpful too.  I don't mind going to Kew to check it out.

Thanks
David

Hello David,

You are going to be VERY lucky if you find Sarah Carr,  most Passenger Lists - Outwards prior to 1890
have not survived.

The following is the connection to NA which explains about Passenger Lists:-
