Essex 1851 Census Frustration
« on: Wednesday 25 January 12 18:56 GMT (UK) »
I'm helping a friend out with researching his family and the 1851 census returns on Ancestry are giving me a serious headache. Firstly, does anyone know of any issues with the returns from Tollesbury for this census? Because I can find nothing from that census relating to his family and they were definitely there. Just in case you're feeling generous the surname is Hawes.

This looks like  John and Joseph, lodging with a family called Clark, not sure if it says married or widower against Johns name.

That's the 1841 census - not 1851

I considered that it was a transcribing error. I'll give it a look and check out your suggestions.

Just found a death for Elizabeth Hawes Maldon 1846, looks like John could have been a widower.
