That's very interesting indeed, so he was in the Workhouse. No wonder I never found any trace of him.

He is on the 1861 census lodging with a family, workhouses were used as hospitals as well and maybe that was why he was in there.

Have you found any of the rest of the family in later census or any BMD for them?

Found quite a lot for 1861 onwards but had a large gap between 1841 - 1861, do you have the piece, folio etc for him lodging with the family in 1861?
