Mary Tew, shown as Low on anc, married William Greenwood 25/12/1904, both aged 21 and her father is shown as Thomas Tew, both witnesses by the surname of Barker, doesn't look as if she is your Mary Tew

I am sure Tomy/Tommy would have had a different surname if adopted

Frederick and Mary Ann had seven children, and only three lived past infancy,...Tommy 1884,  Mary 1882  and one other son Frederick George who I believed died 1906 aged 26 (Islington), yet there is a Frederick George showing on the voters lists up to 1915 living at 67 Bride Street, Islington.

Mary may of married in 1904, either to a Alfred Henry Ensom or a William Greenwood.

If Tommy was placed into care, would he of been adopted?  Then he would have a different name by 1901.

A Frederick George Tew and Susan Tew were having children in Islington 1880s-1890s - perhaps he is the one on the voters' lists.

If Tommy was 'adopted', he would not necessarily have a different name. My great grandparents took a boy in and he was referred to as 'adopted son' on census but kept his original name.
Adoption wasn't a legal process until the 1920s.

As I said before, Thomas was in a Barnardo's Home in 1891.
Didn't they send some children to Canada?

If he was brought up in a children's home - his options would have been limited as an adult and he would have been used to institutions. Perhaps he joined the army or navy ??

Very interesting about children sent to Canada, I knew of children sent to Australia during the War years but not children sent to Canada in those early years.

Back to square one again with Mary.

Yes I wondered if Frederick went to war, but had found a death reg Sep 1906 in Islington for a Frederick Tew, age fits.

I would hate to think the line had stopped with these children.
