Deciphering Occupation on Marriage Certificate
« on: Friday 13 May 05 09:30 BST (UK) »
Hi!

I have a copy of a Marriage Certificate dating back to 1843.
Try as I might, with magnifying glass/screwed up eyes, etc., I cannot identify the occupation of the brides Mother.
It is her details noted under the column of Fathers Name, and her occupation which looks like it says Tighe Woman under the column for Rank or Profession of Father.
How do I post this part of the Marriage Certificate on this page?

Thanks, Carole

Hi Carole,

At the bottom of the page - there is an "additional Options" button - in there look for where you have saved the image on your hard drive with the "browse" button - and thats it - I think.

Any problems get back

Cheers

If you can't work out how to post it put the details of the family on this board and we can look it up on the census.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm not very computer literate and have not really got the hang of things yet.  But here goes...
The marriage took place on 11 November 1843 between Thomas Jakes, 21, a ropemaker living in Offley(?) in the county of Hartford, Huntingdon and Sarah Morton, 21, of Great Staughton, Huntingdon.
No details are shown for the father of Sarah Morton, instead the marriage certificate states 'Mother, Ann Morton' and her Rank/Profession as 'Tighe(?) Woman'.  It could be possible that the word says Ingle Woman.
Maybe, as you mentioned Ann Morton could be looked up on the 1841 Census.
Can someone please do this for me?
Thanks, Carole
