Lloyd,

It would be great to receive more information on David Evans and his family.   Even though I do have quite a lot of information on various relatives I have very little on David.

Thanks, Alltcafan  ;D

David Evans born 10 Jul 1835 in Llangeler married (1) Mary Davies, daughter of David Davies of Godrecynnen, Newchurch, Carmarthenshire on 24 May 1859 and they had three children; Mary died 15 May 1864 and he married (2) her sister Margaret on 8 Oct 1864, and they had eleven children. From the 1860s until 1881 he farmed at Godrecynnen and then all the family, except one daughter from his first marriage, emigrated to USA and settled in Dawn, Livingston County, Missouri, a settlement which included many emigrant Welsh people. David M. Evans (as he was known in USA) died 12 Jul 1895 and Margaret died 2 Nov 1919. There are many descendants of this family in USA.

David Evans's sister Sarah (Sally) born March 1848 emigrated at the same time and settled in Dawn where she married and had three children. She died there 26 July 1910.

David Evans's brother James Evans born 16 Oct 1851 also emigrated at the same time. He moved from Dawn to Texas soon afterwards and some years later (before 1900) he settled in Downey, Los Angeles County, California, where he had a farm. James Daniel Evans, as he was known in USA, died there 17 Sep 1940. He married (in Wales), and had several children.

The father Daniel Evans married Martha Jones on 30 Dec 1834 and they lived at Cwmcerrig, Llangeler. They had several children: David M. Evans (1835) (above), John Evans (1836), Rachel (1838), Thomas (1840), Evan (1843), Samuel (1845), Sarah (1848) (above), James Daniel (1851) (above) and Daniel (1855). Martha died 8 Jun 1865 and Daniel remarried in 1870 to Dinah James and he died at Penrhiw, Llangeler 19 Nov 1896. His gravestone is in Llangeler churchyard. The certificate for his second marriage gave his father's name as Daniel Evans.

Hello everyone - wow!

I am almost absolutely certain that this is my sister-in-law's family!

She gave me the details and I promised to research - only to draw a blank - but we have all the right names and places and the Samuel who died in WWI and all sorts!

So exciting!  :o :D

Can I ask how you know about the 1923 details?*  Would love to know whether David John EVANS wife is Rachel JONES according to your records?  They should have children Eleanor and Martha.

Did the Samuel d WWI marry an Elizabeth?

Feel free to reply by PM if you prefer, as this is getting towards the realms of living people.

Many thanks, Arranroots  ;)

* Edit - realised that this is from the funeral report, so probably no wives named - drat!
