Naturalisation Papers
« on: Monday 30 January 12 19:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Could SKS please tell me where i can look for the naturalisation papers for Benjamin Lazarus, born 1869 in Kobrin, Russia who arrived in England prior to the 1891 Census and was still listed as a Russian Subject in the 1911 Census. Is there a searchable database online.

Many thanks

David ;)

Hi David :)

The information you're after should be in the National Archives:

"Duplicate Home Office copies of naturalisation certificates, which summarise information contained in the background papers, can be found in HO 334 for the period 1870 to June 1969. Indexes by name to these records can be found in HO 409 up to 1980. Copies of indexes up to 1961 can also be found in Parliamentary Papers. "

Cheers

Hi Prue

Thanks for that, so basically there are no online databases.

Kind Regards

Not everyone naturalised. For those who did, they can be found by searching in the NA catalog:
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/search.asp
(using "department code" = HO plus the surname)
Some records are indexed with the full name (HO 334), others with just the surname and initials (HO 405).

They may also be listed in the London Gazette: http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/

Hi Jorose

Many thanks for that very kind assistance, having now checked using that information it appears that neither Benjamin or his 2 brothers applied for naturalisation.

Kind Regards

David :D
