I think you need to widen your search a little,

Radcliff, you could be onto something there. In a later generation I do have an Edmund (perhaps named after a grandfather)?  Richard was a stonemason so I am trying the Guildhall to see if his indentures are registered there.   

A definite possibility thank you very much.

No not that one.  Mine is a wee bit later and not my direct ancestor but from a brother, if you know what I mean. There is another one much later who is buried locally to me.

Yep.  You're not wrong.  All sorts of spellings.  Thank you for your help.  I have been onto the Masons Guild to try and find his indenture for stonemasonary, so hopefully they have some info and will be able to name his father.  Other than that I think I will go with Edmund as I have realised that Richard's son Henry, my ancestor, had a son called Edmund and as I said before, the name does crop up more than once.
