I have the Rhosymedre registers (covering Cefn).  Where they C of E?  If so, I'll check for a baptism later tonight  - I'm sorting all my books out at the moment and they're a bit upside down. Quite a few of my ancestors were from the Ruabon/Rhosymedre area and I was from 3 miles away.

Could this Thomas and brother Samuel Jones, both showing as the sons of Joseph and Elizabeth Jones be of interest in 1871?

Swear words  ~

The Rhosymedre baptism records have a gap from 1880s to 1897  :(

However, if the Samuel, snr, that WR found in 1871 is correct - and it looks very promising -  he might well have been born/baptised in Wrexham itself  :-\

Thanks Gnu & Marg

Typical,...more swear words!

I'll look into the census records in depth a little more tomorow. It's very likely they are all from Wrexham.

Witnessed on the cert are Edward & Hettie Morgan. I believe Hettie is the sister of the bride, Clara Jones, yes - nee Jones! Edward Morgan was a boarder in the brides family home in 1911 and in previous census records was a neighbour.

Thanks for all your help with this, I feel I am getting somewhere with my brick wall.

Re the birth registrations ~

Also consider an illegitimate birth - so ask for father either Samuel or none

I say this because my grandfather gave his own name on his marriage cert and he was illegitimate and did not know who his father was so,  for propriety, he gave his own name. It was fairly common to do this in such cases.

In your case you have - for definite - him as a boarder in 1911 and the marriage cert and a date of birth from his death cert  :-\

Sorry to add another complication but thought it was worth mentioning, just in case.

Also, have you thought of looking for his obituary in the local papers. I found lots of relatives that way.

Hi Dawn

Samuel was consistent with his birhtplace being Wrexham. Denbighshire South is not the correct Reg District for Wrexham. Wrexham is the RD for Wrexham.

I think the one you've found is the one that MargP found last night in Denbigh, which was the wrong family
