6-8 West Bond Street, Macclesfield - are these still Victorian dwellings?
« on: Friday 03 February 12 11:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi, Everyone,
Still exhibiting my ignorance of the modern-day geography of Macclesfield, but can anyone with local knowledge tell me whether 6-8 West Bond Street are still the original dwelling places of the ADDERLEY and CLARKSON families, pretty much from the Census on 1841 until a marriage in 1903.  Both families were involved in the silk weaving trade, but I imagine they perhaps worked in one of the factories rather than carried on in their own homes.
Many thanks in advance, keith

If you go to http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=391264,373349 you can see an 1873 1:500 plan of West Bond Street, and the 14 houses that were there then.

If you blow that up I think you'll find that what you think is a 7 is actually a 4! Numbers 6 and 8 are the two white doors to the left of that one.

Well spotted  :) I should have realised that the even numbers were on that side of the street.

Stan and Jim,
Thanks very much for that double act.  Looks as though the original houses are still there then - though not the original doors!  The pavement looks pretty wide in front too, or is that an optical illusion?

Excuse me for going off-topic but I'm intrigued by the link that you quoted Stan. As you can see, I'm a comparative newcomer to RootsChat and just wondered how you converted a Google Street View link to a RootsChat link?

Hi Jim,
Click on the 'link' image on Google Street view, as shown, and copy the highlighted link into [Shrink Link] which is at the bottom of the RootsChat page.
