Richard FORD m Sarah WAGON at St Margaret's Canterbury 14 Feb 1715 http://www.familysearch.org

There is mention of a Richard WAGGON of Selling, gent being a bond to a marriage in 1759 (William GLOVER of Seasalter (butcher, bachelor, 30) and Eliz. HYDER wid of the same age 23.

There's a will of a Richard WAGON of Sellindge/Mersham 1762/1768 http://www.kentarchaeology.ac/ekwills_a/series/ekp_p2/ekp_p2n_tu.htm :-\

I did see a burial for an Ann WAGON in Mersham http://www.familysearch.org so did wonder about the marriage of Richard WAGON to Ann DODD in St Alphege Canterbury 1726 ........... a bit like working forwards to work back :-\

Just to take this story back a little...

Richard Foord's wife Sarah Waggon was born in Pembury and her younger brother Richard born a few months after their father, Richard's death in 1687. Richard senior died intestate and everything went to his widow, Alice (nee Gibbons).

Tonbridge:
1685 Richard Waggon de Pepinbury & Alice Gibbons

Pembury (als Pepinbury):
1685 Dec 28    Sarah dau of Richard & Alice Wagherne - [Aldington: m1715 Richard Foord]
1687 Oct 17    bur Richard Waghorne - [Richard & Sarah Waggon's father. Administration to Alice widow]
1688 Apr 15 Richard son of Richard & Allice Waghorne

I have yet to establish Richard Waggon/Waghorn's birth and parentage but the Waghorn family seem to have been very prosperous - one with a coffeehouse in Pope's Head Alley in the City (maybe even Lloyd's) and another coffeehouse on the Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells. They seems to be Merchant Taylors with London connections, Yeomen (Speldhurst & Penshurst) and Clothiers (Horsmonden) and all inter-related

Just a guess at the moment but I have feeling that this Richard Waghorn is from Frant (Sussex border with Kent) born in 1659 the son of (another) Richard Waggon & Joan Durtnall.

[Brenchley: 1656 May 1 Richard Waggon of Speldhurst & Jone Durtnall]
1659 Apr 3                 Richard s of Richard Waghorn
1661 Aug 18                  John s of Richard Waghorne
