Hi there -

I am following your thread with interest.

I am not a relative of Thomas Gaunt, however, I am researching his successor F.W.Heath, who is my great-great-great grandfather!

Does anyone here know anything about what happened to the company under his administration?

Or if anyone has any information pertaining to his life, family or any pictures I would be so eternally grateful!

Kindest regards to you all.

Hi Imbi - My research has been about Thomas Gaunt and so I haven't done any serious work on the life of F.W. Heath. He bought Thomas Gaunt's business in 1892, re-named it "T. Gaunt & Co" in late 1893 and ran it until his death in 1947, seeing it through the Great Depression and two world wars.

You might be interested in an article I've come across, which is available from the State Library of Victoria - 'The jewellery of Willis & Sons of Melbourne' (Heath was a partner there before leaving to buy Gaunt's). It's in the Australiana Society Newsletter, vol 10(1), 1988, p13-18.
