Anything on Regiment?

Morning all,

I only have one picture of my very handsome great grandfather which i believe he is in uniform.  We have no idea what regiment etc he was in and the photo is not much help (to me anyway). 

Can anyone take a look at the photo and let me know if any of the badges represent a regiment?

Try Royal Marines, possibly during WWII he might have been with the Comando's.

I think it circa WW2 so his record will still be with MOD
WW1 Royal Marines records are available to download from National Archives.

Yes, he served in WW2.

But that's a great help as if I can find out what regiment / division of the Royal Marines he was in I can try to track that regiments general movements during WW2.

It could be tricky as RMs did lots of different tasks during ww2
A lot of them were employed as gunners on Royal Navy ships and also some  Royal Marines completed the Commando Course and were employed in RM Commando units when they won their Green Berets.

Should be able to find out by his record if you apply for it

I may apply for it. I know the MOD charges £30 but it would be worth it. I'd already looked into it for another grandfather who was in the RAF
