Hello,

Not sure if I am posting in the right place....apologies if I am, first time on here.
I would really like to find out some information on my grandfather -Stanley hawkes (nickname sacko) he was in the Chindits and was in the few that survived the war.
From speaking to my uncle he was awarded 4medals. He was in the jungle and never spoke of his time in the army. My grandfather died when I was 6months old 1986. Would love to know how I go about finding information about my very brave grandfathers time in the Chindits.

Many thanks.

You will need to apply to the MOD for his service record...you will have to provide proof of death and also a fee of £30 and a long wait!!
If you Google "veterans agency service records" you should find info to send the request to
