Hi and welcome to Rootschat

With a surname like Johnson - we need a lot more information

Where and when were they both born? Have you looked for them on the 1881 census which is free to search at

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp

When and where did they marry?

Did they have any children - names and birthyears/birthplaces needed please

Yes thanks I have found them in 1871 in Durham, and in 1881 in Whitford, Flintshire, but I can't find anybirth records for any of their many children, did travelling people not bother to record births etc. I would love to know more about the circus life aroung this time.  Thanks again

Probably not - particularly if they moved around a lot

Are you just looking for info about their life as circus people?  Given how long ago that was - that may be difficult

Hello,
I only just found this thread and it is years old. But... My Grandmother was Sarah Ellen Johnson married a Hallmark. She was a member of the Johnson Circus, I believe that she rode horses for the circus. I am told that one of her parents was from the Pinder Circus. She gave birth tp my father in 1931, so I am assuming that she was born in the early 1900s
