inspector Quinlan metropolitan police

Hello,
Would love to find out more of the service record of  William Harold Quinlan. Believe he was with the C.I.D and received some kind of recognition for  resolving fairly large investigation into fraud.

Birth 20th November 1892......  he married Edith Annie Lee 14th March 1920 at Greenwich, and his last address was in Lewisham area.
His parents Michael and Florence Mary Quinlan.

The other info I have is that he died in the late 1960s.

Have a ww1 medal 69226 cpl  W.H.Quinlan R.A

I have done my best to find additional records but maybe, just being silly or not looking in the right place. lol

Thanks

The National Archive have a podcast The Metropolitan Police: an introduction to records of service 1829-1958 that may be of interest:

Hello again,

Well many teas later, frustration at still not making any headway, recalled I have an old diaries from this mans widow...inheritied from my cousin who acted as executor to her will.

What an eye opener....there, amongst very tiny, pencil written notes,  numbers rows of them.
Cross referenced with the other information, it turned out most were reference to Policies, Defence Bonds, Savings certificates...then, there it was ...... Wm P.P number (pension number?) 7/343193 12/4/47........under that 107071 Husbands Police number?   'fingers crossed that someone out there can take me a little closer'

Having read through the info kindly given to me by both stanmapstone and mshrmh appears that full service record only available in person, or have I got it wrong again?    ::) lol

Valnan,

Sorry for dragging an old post up and I hope that you've had some luck in finding out more information about this person.

The number you quote as 'Husbands police number' looks very much like a Met police warrant number. Without putting mine on a public forum, they are six digits long and currently at around 234***.

A 107*** warrant number would put him joining at between 1919 and 1920. Does that information fit?

Take a look here - http://www.historybytheyard.co.uk/warrant_nos.htm

Best of luck in your research,

Rich
(current Met officer)

Hello Rich,

Thank you for your post. I  would at the end of the day, very much like to find this Man's service records. Both War and peacetime as a Police Officer. Then with help and some luck it will lead me to the family, who I believe should be the keepers of these details. I want to offer as much as I can to them.

Yes, looking at the bundle of details he was recruited as you say. I note from your post you currently Met.  Is there a historian or records archivist that I could contact, they would be of great help?

Val,

There is a Met archivist / historian and that link I gave you should hold details of how to contact them. They will supply details on officers but I think there may be a fee.

If you get no joy, drop me a message on here and I will see what I can find out from 'inside' the Met. I'm not at work until the end of next week so there may be a bit of a delay.

Best of luck,

Rich
