Very possibly I couldn't really make it out but deffo began with V. Would the name Vass link in somewhere?

Yes it would, I found a George Sadler married to an Annie Govus, Annie later married Sydney George Vass, they went on to have more children one of which was a daughter named Mabel which would have been Florence's stepsister (M Vass)

This is all from someone else's tree but could be worth a look and some confirmation based on what you found in the parish records.

Yes on a second look I can see its Vass. I think its an M but the ink is smudged slightly. ;)
