sharkey, what was Jardine doing in India?  Commerce, trade, East India company employee?
Where was he born and when did he go to India?

The reason I ask is, might his marriages be on the overseas records... they have a special name and are lodged separately from ordinary uk marriages.
That's a bit/very muddled but maybe you get my point.

Thanks for your reply.  I think he was in the army.  His death records state Military Pensioner.  I have not yet checked the Chelsea Pensioner website.

If he was in the British Army, I think I am correct in saying the records of BDMs would be in Chaplains Returns.
I don't know what date those start.

I don't know how you access those.

Hi Sharon

In the Armed Forces Marriages  there is a reference to a marriage of William Duffin Jardine in 1835 - there is no Jane Golding listed but there is a Jane Holden?

Best wishes

Hi

If that is the 17 Feb at Trickinopoly Madras, its the correct marriage.  I have Jane as "Holdin" and "Golding" but Holden is a distinct possibility.  On two of  her children's births, she is just plain Jane.  On the birth of William Edward  in 1839 in Madras she is Jane Golding.  I think Jane died in 1854.

But the fact that its in the Armed Forces marriages is good news.    I don't suppose these is a further reference to William Duffin jardine and either Josephine Decotta or Maria D'Costa about 1855 ish?

regards,
Sharon
