Swanley Convalescing Home
« on: Monday 13 February 12 12:06 GMT (UK) »
Just had a phone call from elderly aunt asking if I know of a book with old photos of Swanley in.

During the 1930's she was in a convalescing home for children which was in Swanley.  She believes it could have been called Whitecroft, but certainly White..... something. She thinks the site is where there are council offices now.

Can anyone help please.

Hello,

You might try  Lost hospitals of London  website.  There was a

Whiteoak Hospital for children with eye disease in Swanley.

   Hoping this helps.     ama

Thanks for link and found info on White Oak Hospital. Had initially thought this could not be right as understood aunt had been suffering from anemia, and indeed she has never worn glasses until the last couple of years. However,  and this SHOWS THE NEED TO CHECK AND CHECK AGAIN,  have just been speaking to her tonight to tell her what I had found or rather had not found  and that the White Oak was only for children with eye diseases.  She then said ' well yes that was why I was there, I had ulcers under my eyelids and I was referred there by Moorfield Hospital.  I thought you knew".

So I have spent a couple of days wasting time searching, when I had the answers on Monday!!!! All I need to do now, is try and find some old photos of the place for her.

So a warning to all (and I should have known this anyway) keep checking and double checking.
