You may find that in the future some snippet of info will suddenly come to light which gives a clue to what happened.  Usually when you are least expecting it!

Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk

If you hadn't registered the birth within the allotted time frame (six weeks), they could always be registered late - although there was a fine.  Occasionally you do see things like kids being registered with one first name and then later baptised with an entirely different one (family changed their mind).

Given that the censuses were usually in about April or so, I'd extend his possible birthdate back to 15 November 1878 - which would have put him at about 2 1/2 years of age at the 1881 census. (It's also easier to imagine 78/87 getting mixed up when someone wrote it down).

Ok - thanks for that. Perhaps I should look for births in 1878. Ladyt  :)

Why would he have been born in Marylebone when his parent married in Poplar and seen to be settled around that area?

I think I would tend to agree that he may not be a natural son.

Good question! If he was born in Marylebone would that show on the birth record or would it be a different registration district  ??? Ladyt

Louis was living with his family in 1871 in Kensington, perhaps he could of had a son before he moved to Poplar with Elizabeth or perhaps Louis was an illigitamate son of his or Elizabeth's or even one of his sister's?

His family seem to move to East London with them.
