I checked with one of the old aunts who says that  . . . .

Beware of old aunts!!!

Firstly, their memory may not be as good as they think! ;D
Secondly, they may want/not want to "remember" certain facts?!

I'm not saying don't believe them, but we all have family stories that don't quite turn out the way they were remembered! ;D :o

I'll second that.  Treat any information from anyone else (including us) as helpful but to be clarified with documentation where possible.

Rosie  (off to see what I can find)  ;D

This Could be Abraham Wilkinson in 1841
Hall Lane, Bowling
H0107/1292 f 8/12 p16
Abram Wilkinson 35 Wool Sorter
Hannah  35
John 4
Alfred  2
all born Yorkshire

No evidence of a Mary Ann though which would tie in with the 1841/2 birth

Don't forget adult ages were rounded down in 1841

So do you think there are two Mary Annes.  One born in 1841 and one born in 1832?

I thought it was a possibility but only the birth certificates of the children if they are available would confirm it one way or another.  It seems strange to me that Mary Ann Wilkinson gives the same age more or less on the census when with her mother in 1871 and her marriage certificate and is then several years older for the rest of the records.

Hi

Birth/Marriage/Deaths indexes -  free to view  http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Some Yorkshire Parish registers are on Ancestry, they also have census as does Findmypast but they are both subscription sites.  You can get trials on both of these sites but you need to put credit card details and then remember to cancel before the trial runs out.

Samuel Shaw seems to be an enigmatic character.  One of the things we haven't figured out is how he got the Fulford Arms in York and who his parents, garandparents etc where
