1841 1851 THOMAS WITTINGTON SOMERS TOWN
« on: Saturday 14 May 05 15:29 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone,
one last try with my THOMAS WITTINGTON/WHITTINGTON. BORN 1826  CHICHESTER  FATHER JAMES, MOTHER MARY. James was a labourer and in 1826 was living in SOMERS TOWN, CHICHESTER. Help would be appreciated with a 1841 or 1851 census look up, thanks,

DIANE

The only Whittington on the 1851 index for Chichester is Charles age 18.   1841 would take too long to search as it is not indexed.  Why not get the film at your nearest LDS centre and search it yourself?

Hi Andrea,
I am attempting to buy the Census but my husband and I are disabled and on low funds. My son pays for our internet connection. That is why I posted a question on buying the census and where from on the Sussex general page.
I shall wait till I get the census ,thank you

Did not realise you were the same person!    I think that eventually ancestry.com will do the 1841 then lots of people will be able to search it for you.  Which places are you looking for?    Some are much easier to search than others and Chris in 1066land is very adept at searching so may well do it for you if you put on a specific post with names and places.

Hi Venusian

Can you give me any futher help on where in the Chichester area Somerstown may be.

Will then attempt to search the enumerators returns for 1841 to try and locate your Thomas Whittingtons and variant.

Hi Chris,
thats very kind of you I know how busy you are. Somers Town (sommerstown) is direct north of Chichester and today is called Summersdale. In 1861 Thomas is in Woolavington so the family may have moved on.Once again thanks,
