George SCOTT previous SCUTT ? Tasmania Lookup Occupation on Birth Reg
« on: Wednesday 15 February 12 11:44 GMT (UK) »
Hello All
I'm tracing information on George Scott mariner what I have so far is listed below, the only problem is that I can't find documentation linking George SCOTT mariner Worthing to George SCUTT born worthing then becomes a mariner in 1856 then disappears in 1857 in Sydney as George SCOTT.

He may of jumped ship to chase gold or joined another ship he shows up in 1861 as a A.B. then on and off as a mariner up to 1867 then the next occupation drayman on my Grandfathers birth Cert in 1881.
Crew agreements for coastal ships are virtually non-existent so my hope is to find him on a British bound ship and the crew agreement.

To narrow the search down for a crew agreement can somebody look up birth details to find out when he changed his occupation and left the sea.

After his marriage in Hobart 1864 he had, GEORGE THOMAS 21/01/1865,  ELIZABETH EMILY 27/04/1867, CAROLINE ROSINA 28/06/1869, MARY ANN HENRIETTA 15/08/1871, ROBERT JOHN 09/01/1874, ARTHUR 15/03/1877, ALBERT 02/06/1879, ALFRED. Reg Alfred Baptised FREDERICK HENRY. 28/10/1881, MAY 02/05/1885, CHARLES ERNEST 26/02/1888. All Hobart Tas.

Thanks Lou, ;D
It gives me a definite period to work back from, my hope is to pick up a crew agreement with his birth place etc.

i'm lead to believe the later records being the more detailed and accurate.

I appreciate your time and effort, if i have any success I will report back so others can use the information.

Thanks
Robert

Coincidentally my 3x gt grandfather A Joy shows up as an apprentice on the Barque Chance arriving in Sydney from Manila on August 24 1857 ... perhaps he replaced your ancestor George Scott/Scutt ?

I know this is an old feed but my grandfather is the illegitimate child of Arthur SCOTT, son of George. My grandfather was born in 1917 and was the result of a relationship that occurred whilst Arthur was home in Hobart undergoing "home service" due to injuries.

I would love to make contact with the SCOTT family and would dearly love to see any family photos, especially of Arthur or George.
