Greeting’s. ….. Folks…….

The following are my findings…….

ALL within the Registers  of ST: DIONYSIUS……… MKT Harborough.

This Marriage was defiantly conducted by BANNS. And Not by Licence as posted………

Registers to prove this read thus :~

MARRIAGE BANNS ANNO DOMINI :~ 1797.

John Darnell ~ Mary Holloway.
Both of this Parish.

Were published thrice ….
November ….22nd , 29th.
December 5th..
E. Dardy. Rector.

MARRIAGE REGISTERS ANNO DOMINI :~ 1797.

John Darnell. Of this Parish. Bachelor.
Mary Holloway. Of this Parish. Spinster.

Were married in this Chapel By Banns.
This Seventh Day of December
One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Seven.
By Me:~   E. Dardy Rector.

Both signed the register by their own signatures.

In the Presence of :~
Ann Holloway.
John Martin.

I can see were the Licence part could come in
All the other Marriages on this page were conducted by Licence.

Also spotted this :~

BAPTISMS ANNO DOMINI : ~ 1799.

George. Born 1st January.
Son of John Darnell ( A Miller )
And his wife Mary formally Holloway.
Baptised …2nd January. ..E Dardy. Rector

Hope this helps

Hi Mike,
Thanks for checking this out.  I would have preferred him to be a widow, but at least I now have this man's occupation confirmed, so that will help me tie him in or out.  I see that one of the witnesses was a John Martin, who also witnessed the marriage of the man who might be his brother, and he is definitely connected to Middleton, so there could be a clue there, though he might just have been the clerk.  Anyhow, every scrap of info is valuable, so once again, thank you for being so generous with your time.
Carolyn

Greeting’s Again Carolyn. …

" Your very welcome ".....

Glad that some of the information was helpful …….

Re: ~  John Martin.
One of the things I look for when I’m looking at the names of the Wit’s
Are they part of the Church Staff ?....

They usually sign several Registers also if you trawl to the end of the year
Their signatures appear on the summing up of the figures for the year.
But in this case I did not see this ……

Hi Mike,
So he's definitely worthy of more investigation.  Could be the missing link.
Thanks,
Carolyn
