Help! Somerset Light Infantry WW2
« on: Saturday 14 May 05 17:22 BST (UK) »
When our lads had their call up papers, where did they report to?

My dad names was Edward Stephen Colston of Fishponds Bristol. He and three other brothers Les, Jack, George, all served in WW2 and all from Bristol.

I am trying to find any info on his and his brothers army years.   Apart from knowing that they were in the S.L.Infantry (Artillery) am stuck.
One small thing thats sticks in my mind is being told of the (12th Glosters) but where and why I remember that info I have no ideal. Ring any bells with anyone?

They may have went to Horfield Barracks, Bristol,  the was the Glosters Depot, from there they would have been sent to other deopt, in the country.

Hi Lyns

I have had a quick search on the net, and I cold find no info .

The only way you are going to find out is correct units is a trip to Kew, ( which I had to do) and look through the medal index, then you can then send off for his records, which I did for my dad.  money well spent.
