Thanks for the link, looks interesting & I recognise some of them from a quick look. David had a brother John on the Kincardine census but must have died as he's not on the 1851 census. I'm now wondering if father & son died together so I will be checking freecen deaths first as there are 2 James Hogg deaths from Gateshead so will now look for John to see if I can tie them up. It's a pain though that English certs only give the father's name unless it's a birth.
