Looks as if that is the right marriage Margp.

From FreeREG

11 July 1853
St Mary Wolverhampton

Joseph Bolt   iron caster   abode  Back Lane
Jane Pritchard aged 20    abode Back Lane

Groom's father William Bolt (dec)
Bride's father David Pritchard Locksmith.

That fits with the Joseph Bowld of 1851.

I see the 1891 also has George's name as Bolt - obvious I suppose as that is how it would be pronounced.

George Bolt
Baptized 9 May 1852
St Mary Wolverhampton
Father Job Bolt Iron Caster
Mother Jane
Abode Back Lane
Notes Henry Bolt,Edward Handley, Cath Ratchford

Marriage 11 July 1853 St Mary Wolverhampton
Joseph Bolt Bachelor Iron Caster
Abode Back Lane
Jane Pritchard 20 Spinster
Back Lane
Grooms father William Bolt
Brides Father David Pritchard Locksmith
Witnesses Samuel Tibbetts,Chathrine Rochford

I think that this confirms that George was born out of wedlock, but the question is was he registered as Pritchard or Bolt

Why do I always forget Freereg?

There are these 3 baptisms in Wolverhampton:

George Pritchard  9 May 1852   parents Richard and Ann
George Pritchard  4 July  1852  parents George and Emma
George Pritchard  5 Sept 1852  parents George and Eliza

So that looks as if that rules out that theory. Still no George Boults though.

I still think you are looking for George BOULT but with various spellings.
Hi Jan this seems odd, or it may just be a coincidence, George Pritchard 9 May 1852 the same as Geoge Bolt 9 May 1852 was the one you found at St Mary????

Yes it was but I think it is just a coincidence, his father was Richard Pritchard a wheelwright - perhaps Jane's brother?

I think this is Jane in 1851

HO107/2019/1000/37
Back Lane Wolverhampton

David Pritchard  50   Grinder       Liverpool
Mary Pritchard   42                      Ireland
Jane Pritchard   20   tip puncher  Liverpool

The 1861 gives Jane's place of birth as Liverpool.

Well spotted Margp, I'd forgotten all about that, it sounds right doesn't it, we all know how family stories get muddled.  ;D ;D
