I'll leave Jack with the 1881, but in 1891 the publican of the Horse and Groom was a John Andrews from Kensington.

Living in the next property was a widowed Esther Walby, with her family. Occupation - Butcher.

And in 1901, it was a couple called George and Mary Furby.

Also, where was Halls Yard?

As it says in the link Sharon posted, in 1901 a Henry Walby was a Butcher next to the Arm and Sword Yard. Also the George Furby (Jacob's Well) I mentioned earlier, is in the next but one property to Halls Yard.

Hi,

This link should help.

Sharon

I'll post the following from the link because it makes it easier to understand :

Quote
The Walby family were well-known butchers in Hatfield and in 1901 Henry Walby and his brother James had a butchers shop on the corner of Park Street and Arm and Sword Yard, they also lived there with their sisters Beatrice and Amelia.

By 1901 the residents in the yard were brickmakers, railway workers and carpenters, with women and children working as laundresses and straw plaiters.

Today, the car park and footpath down the side of the Horse and Groom pub are all that is left of Arm and Sword Yard.
