one step at a time...

To start you need one, or both, of Michael's marriages, to see what details these records have - that's why I did the search for children to try to narrow down the dates a little. A Civil marriage, i.e. after 1864, will show his father's name and occupation and could help confirm, or rule out, any possible baptisms you find later. A marriage record may include other useful details such as a relation or sibling as witness, and if the marriage took place in certain Dublin parishes it may include details of both his parents.

An RC baptism record will generally show both parents full names.

two questions :

do you have details and dates for any other of the children (either marriage) ?

do you have any idea where in Co. Laois Michael came from ?

Not all parishes have records back to 1840 so knowing the location might be vital. Details of Michael's father might help find him on Griffiths Valuation, which might give a location or two to focus the search..

here's a possible marriage cross-match from the BMD Index for Michael's 2nd marriage - with Mary's surname slightly mistranscribed :

  Name: Michael Feehan
  Registration district:   Dublin South
  Event type: Marriage
  Quarter and year: Apr-Jun 1878
  Volume: 2 / Page: 579

  Mary Bryne
  [same references as Michael]

For notes on research marriage cert and how to order them see :

couple more children from the 1st marriage from extracted civil records :

  Philip Feehan / 01 Feb 1864 / Castletown District / Ref. 361
  Patrick Feehan / 09 Oct 1865 / Rathfarnham district / Ref. 719
  Charles Feehan / 27 Nov 1867 / Rathfarnham district  / Ref. 698
  Joseph Feehan / 21 Oct 1875 / Dublin

The first record listed has Elizabeth's surname as Bleany - and is in Queens County/Co. Laois, so it appears that's where Michael's first marriage took place. Since Philip's birth is listed the year that civil records commenced it's possible that there were other children before him.. so the first marriage could be a few years earlier.

See : link  (Familysearch)

p.s. Castletown sub-district is part of the registration district of Abbeyleix.

Here are the full BMD Index references for the birth of that child near Abbeyleix - there could be useful clues on the record, such as a more detailed location, Michael's occupation etc...

  Name: Philip Feehan
  Registration district: Abbeyleix
  Event type: Birth
  Year: 1864
  Volume: 3 / Page: 361

see : Details included on a Birth Cert

For others, here's his second marriage to Mary Byrne in 1878. His father Philip Feehan, a labourer.
