Newspaper/GRO lookup 1943 Wilfred Alf GALE
« on: Monday 20 February 12 12:50 GMT (UK) »
I have the following information which I am sure of for this man

Wilfred Alf GALE

Parents William Wheatley GALE and Margaret (nee HENDERSON)

Birth registered Q3 1902 Gateshead 10a 1046

1911 Census - age 8, with parents at 58 Derwentwater Road., Gateshead RG14PN30427 RG78PN1748A RD557 SD2 ED17 SN352

and then I have some 'highly possible but not yet confirmed' info

According to the BT historical directories, from 1927 to his death in 1943 he was listed at:

Central 2849 - GALE W.A., L.D.S., Dental Surgeon  Chelsea Cottage, 412 Westgate Rd., Newcastle

Notice in the London Gazette dated 02 March 1943
Pursuant to the Trustees Act 1925
regarding the estate of Wilfred Alf GALE of 412 Westgate Rd., Newcastle-upon-Tyne and of 11 Seaside Lane, Easington Colliery, Co. Durham, Dental Surgeon who died on 20th February 1943.

I can't find a death registration for him, have searched the GRO index for England & Wales and searched in Scotlands People in case he was over the border for some reason.  Given the date of death I have tried forces deaths, CWGC and  deaths overseas register and have come up with zilch, nada, nowt !

I am hoping that there may have been something in the Newcastle newspapers about his death - death notice/ report  on or very soon after 20th February 1943. I am too far away to get to Newcastle easily and this period not available online, so if anyone is willing to look it up I would be grateful.

or if anyone can find a likely death registration I would love to know about it.

Thanks

Boo

Oh Anna, thank you!

I am still at the start of this branch, Wilfred's grandmother was my G Granny's sister.

That ticks all the boxes , John Raymond was his brother and Phyllis was his sister (her hubby seems to have been a very interesting man indeed). The address in the probate was, I believe, his father's address.
I now also have a wife for Wilfred. I hadn't yet got that far, I was still trying to suss if they divvied up his estate 'before' he died  <g>

May I ask where you got the probate record at such short notice? I have access on ancestry but as far as I know the database only goes up to 1941. If there is somewhere I can see later ones I have a long list .. :-)

and the death registration is a very likely GRO typo, I will make enquiries with Gateshead Registrars.

Thank you SO much, I was starting to think I was going mad .

Boo

First Avenue House (on High Holborn, London -  where the full probate index is available) is a stone's throw from where I work, so I looked it up for you when I went out to get my lunch :)

Possibly, though be aware that in this context "Dorothy Gale widow" means "Dorothy Gale, a widow" rather than "Dorothy Gale, widow of the deceased".

wow! thank you even more then, that was very kind of you indeed .
Hope you also managed to get some lunch :-)

and yes, I understand about the 'widow', but I had a quick look in the marriage index and have found the same  entry as you, which is now in the 'possible but needs further confirmation' folder :-)
