Robert James France was my father. He was captured at Dunkirk and taken to POW camp XX-A, near Thorn, Poland, where the actor Sam Kydd was also imprisoned. After making several attempts to escape he was transferred to the much harsher regime at VIII-C at Sagan. This was adjacent to Stalag Luft III and he remained there until repatriated. He spoke little of his wartime experiences to his family. He often mentioned Sam Kydd, but I have no recollection of him talking about Rupert Davies.
