I am in the process of starting a study on the Caudwell surname through the Guild of One-name Studies (one-name.org). I have been working on my family in England for a long time. Joseph Caudwell was my ggg-grandfather. I will be trying to identify and document as many Caudwells as I can worldwide. Much of the information on this thread is familiar to me but I am still unclear about his history following release and his death. I plan to go through what has been said here to try and clarify the details of the later years of his life. I have set up the Caudwell surname study group on Facebook. Anybody with an interest in the surname is welcome to join.
