Minchinton's from Dorset
« on: Wednesday 22 February 12 03:36 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,

Hello,
I'm researching our family name, Minchinton, sometimes spelt Minchington, Minchenton or similar.
We live in Australia and I have come to a stop as I can't find any information from Yeovil and Yetminster, Somerset  and Chetnole in Dorset.
We are descendent's  of  James Minchinton born 1752 in Yeovil and Sarah Shears born 1764 in Somerset. Their son John born in Chetnole in 1796 then married Mary Ann Crocker born 1795 in Pulham Dorset.  Their son John born 1829 in Corsecombe, Dorset married Ellen Amelia Butler born 1835 in Falmouth immigrated to Australia and from there I have good records.
If you could help with any of the early history from Sommerset or Dorset I would  really appreciate it.
Regards,
Julie and Brian Minchinton

This document (D/FFO/22/91) refers to some land John owned in Corscombe:

Hi,

Have you had a look at the Dorset OPC site?

http://www.opcdorset.org/

Chetnole, Corsecombe and Pulham all have pages with a variety of information.

Hi Nanny Jan,
Yes I have tried those records, but can't find the correct family of Minchinton's.
I'm really looking for early info, 1710 approx in Yeovil Somerset.
But with spelling changes of Minchinton, I just don't know what to look for :(
Any ideas?
Regards,
Julie

Hi,

Have you tried the equivalent for Somerset?

http://wsom-opc.org.uk/

Have you looked at the resources on the Somerset board?

Hi Richard,
Thank you for the property info, yes they are the same Minchinton family as I'm researching, but I don't know who Sharon is.
I have now added those details to my tree.

Hi Nanny Jan,
This is my second day on here, so still finding my way around.
I will check out the wsom-opc.org.uk link and see if anything is there.
Thanks again for your help.

Can you let us know what you do know about the earlier generations to avoid duplication?

James and Sarah's children's baptisms are all on the Dorset opc site, as are the burials in Yetminster of James (1830 age 77), Sarah (1841 age 77), John (1866, age 70) + Will (1834) and Harriet (1865) who are presumably connected. Presumably you know all this.

Are you just looking to flesh the lives out a little?

Richard

Added later: actually the above John appears to be a different one (b Crewkerne at the same time and a landowner) - married to Harriet

Hello All,
First thank you again for the links to search for info on the Minchinton's.
I think I have most of the time-lines filled in for the family of Sarah and James from the Dorset OPC.
Now I would like to flesh out more about the parents of James, John Minchinton born 1710 in Yeovil, and dies 1786 in Somerset and his wife Elizabeth Russel or Russell.
So I will check the Somerset OPC and hope to find as much as I can.
Regards,
Julie
