Mold, St Mary
« on: Wednesday 22 February 12 16:53 GMT (UK) »
Is anyone in a position to look up the Marriage of John Tweedie and Ellen Timothy, Mold St Mary, Q3 1870.

I am trying to find a John Tweedie who 'disappears' from Cumberland - no death found, after 1867. He was born in 1840 in Cummertrees, Dumfrieshire (1840 census has '5 months')

I would be interested to know what his marital status and fathers name is on the MCert.

(see my public tree on Ancestry)

Any helpgreatly appreciated.

The 1871 census shows that John Tweedie b 1833 Scotland

Did you check the 1881 census - born 1834 Scotland so not your John Tweedie

Presume you mean the 1841 census?

In 1861 the John Tweedie b 1841 Cummertrees was a ploughman in Ruthwell

Did your John Tweedie have parents Lawrence and Catherine?

If so - he is probably the 1881 entry married to Jessie - b 1842 Moffatt who has children named Lawrence and Catherine

As I already posted - he was borm in Cummertrees, Dumfieshire - which is in scotland. indeed in 1841 - age 5months, with his mother's family.
In 1851 with a different branch of his mothers family (he was illegitimate)
In 1861 in Ruthwell.
in1867 Marries Mary Corr, Cockermouth - MCert has John's father Evan Tweedie - which is correct
In 1867 Roseannah born in Cockermouth, in the workhouse, father's name John Tweedie
In 1873 Mary Tweedie marries again in Cockermouth - but no death of John Tweedie found.
In 1886 Rosannah marries, her MCert has father John Tweedie deceased, but no death found.
John Tweedie, marries Mold 1870 to Ellen Timothy. 1871 and 1881 show John Tweedie in Flintshire, from Scotland - abt same age as my John Tweedie also from Scotland.

But - is the father of John Tweedie married MOld Evan Tweedie and what is his marital status - I need to rule him in or out.
There is another potential John Tweedie in Tynemouth. which I am also trying to rule in/out.

abt same age as my John Tweedie also from Scotland.

The John Tweedie who married Ellen was 7/8yrs older than your John Tweedie

1871 for Cumberland shows Mary as married.  What was John's occupation on the 1867 marriage cert

Yes agreed 7/8 years older - but on earlier census his age varies by 4 yars also.
On his daughters BCert - Railway Worker
On his daughters MCert - Coal miner, deceased.
On his own MCert Labourer

The other candidate in Northumberland is a better age match - in 1881 he is a Shipbuilder

Just had a response on the Northumberland thread -
that marriage is John Tweedie son of John - which rules him out. :'(

So if its not this guy in Mold then I am really struggling ???

Many thanks for that - again its not the right guy - his father shopuld be 'Evan' - I will have to look elsewhere

There's one last possibility he married in Carlise - then probably living in Glasgow area on next census.

However, given i cant find a death I cant help wondering if he just upped sticks and emigrated - leaving his wife and child -
(This happened in another branch of my family - where on the census after he left his wife says she is still married, and he has re-married in America)

Much appreciated
