I am searching for the Bakewell birth/baptism (c1761) of an Edward Wyatt. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

IGI has an extracted record of a Edward Wyatt ch. 1.1.1762 Tideswell, Derby father Daniel Wyatt.

From 1839 Tideswell was a civil parish within the reg dist of Bakewell

The earliest Wyatt entry in the Bakewell PR is the marriage of Edward Wyatt (presumably yours?) and Ann Bateman 31/10/1782, so he didn't originate there.

The IGI entry that patrish mentions also appears in Val Neal's transcript of the Tideswell PR (http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/DBY/ValNealCDs.html#Tideswell), which also states that Daniel was a miner of Litton. This Edward was not married or buried in Tideswell, which at first glance makes it seem that he's a possibility (especially since one of Edward's children was named Daniel). However Daniel (and his wife Elizabeth) disappear from the Tideswell PRs after the bapt of their daughter Sarah in 1768, so it may be worth trying to find where the family moved to, to see if their son Edward was buried or married there - either to rule him out, or add a little more circumstantial evidence.

If you do manage to find Daniel's burial/date of death, then it may be worthwhile contacting Lichfield record office to see if he left a will.
Too many to list! But always particularly interested in my eight ggp lines : ALLEN, HODGKINSON, FLINT, SWINDELL, SHELDON, BINGHAM, JACKSON - all in Derbyshire; and ELLWOOD in Cambridgeshire

Hey Patrish and Msallan

Many thanks for your responses.

The Edward Wyatt to whom you refer is the very man who I am trying to trace. Although the Bakewell marriage PR and the Banns registry say that he is "of this parish" he does not appear in the baptisms PR. But I do appreciate that his being "of this parish" does not mean that he was born there but that, at the time, he resided in the parrish.

As for finding out where the Wyatt family moved to after 1768 - where does one start ?  ???

Needless to say, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

You could have a look on familysearch.org, for example a quick look under England Deaths and Burials shows an Edward Wyhatt buried Bakewell 1831 - may or may not be your Edward of course, lots of other Wyatt burials in Bakewell too. Might just give you a few more details about the family, Daniel & Elizabeth's children baptised in Tideswell are shown under England Births and Christenings etc .

If you can't find a death date for Daniel, you may still be able to find a will. If you contact Lichfield Record Office and ask them if a "probate surname list for Wyatt" has already been compiled.

They charge a considerable amount to search their index extracting all the entries for a particular surname (I think its about £11 per 25 year period from memory), but if such a search has ever been done in the past, then they will let you have a copy of the entire list - often covering 300+ years - for the same £11 charge. Of course there will be a further charge to actually purchase copies of any wills in the list should you spot any in there of interest - I think its about £5 or £6 per will.

Alternatively of course, if you can actually get to Lichfield then its free to consult the indexes and wills, and you can get photocopies of them or photograph them yourself.
