Lesley Arthur Hearn and wife Yvonne Bridget Hearn poss Caterham
« on: Sunday 26 February 12 10:44 GMT (UK) »
The above arrived from Calcutta in 1933 with 1 year old son who may be still alive so not named.
The story is that Lesley was a Captain in the Indian Army and his wife died.
The young son was brought up by a neighbour until his father died then someone who may have been an aunt called one day to take the boy away.
A member of the family who looked after the boy states they lived in Caterham  and I have found a death for Yvonne B Hearn June q 1934 Surre South Eastern but appears to be 10 years older than the Yvonne on the shipping list.. ..
Are there many burial sites in Caterham or has anyone any local knowledge

I have a a quick reply from a lady at the site shown and Yvonne is not buried at St Mary's. Caterham.
The district shown is Surrey South Eastern which may cover several places...
May have to send for the death cert for an address.

That's a shame. There isn't another one that fits, but as you said she is 10 years older than on the shipping list. I agree, you will probably need the certificate as there is nothing else to go on.

Surrey South Eastern covered all these districts, so could be anywhere

I originally posted this query in September 2006:-
I am trying to find NORMAN HEARNE or HERNE born May 1932. His father was a captain in the Indian Army in the 1920s. After the death of his young mother, Norman was looked after by my mother, Stella, and grandmother Florence, who lived in Kenley, Surrey. He was there for less than 2 years. He was then taken away when his father died, possibly by his aunt. It is believed he was taken to South Africa.

I have now forwarded the reply I received recently to my aunt Sheila, who played with Norman, and who asked me to try and trace him.  She is now nearly 82.  She confirmed that this is the correct person. She is so pleased that finally she may get to know what happened to him.  She was so upset at the time when he 'disappeared' and she has always wondered what became of him.

Thank you.
Stella

Thank you Stella.
It sounds very much like the same family and I know of Norman Warren Hearn but this involves living persons so will have to be done by pm.
You mention his father died and the Norman was taken away.. heve you any information about when his father died and if it was in the UK or did he return to India.

I now have the death cert and it is for Yvonne Bridget Hearn who died age 24 so GRO info is incorrect and it is the right person.
She died at  Westmeow, Stanstead Road, Caterham on 27 May 1934 which ties in with the address given by her husband when he  sailed back to India in July 1934.
I have checked Street Maps but Westmeow is not recognised.
Does anyone know if the house is still there.

Hello, I am the daughter of Norman Hearn. I'm happy to privately message details of his life after his parents died. However, having not used this site before I'm not sure how to go about that.
