Mary Byrne (nee Johnston)
« on: Tuesday 28 February 12 03:34 GMT (UK) »
I'm hunting for information about my great great grandmother, Mary Byrne (nee Johnston) I have a copy of the 1901 census of Ireland. She is listed as a 47 yr old widow born in Kings County. Can anyone help me find out anything else about her please?

Welcome to Rootschat. I can't see your Mary Byrne in 1901 census (widowed and living in King's Co.) but there is one in 1911. If you could give us the census reference and any more details you've found (and exactly what sort of information you are looking for) we might be able to help.

if that's the correct family - then this looks like a good match for the birth of the youngest son. A birth cert for him would show father's name and occupation, which should help further searches.

  Name: Richard Byrne
  Registration district:   Borrisokane
  Event type: Birth
Quarter and year: Jan - Mar 1891
  Volume: 3 / Page: 336

She is definitely the one in Tipperary. I recognise all the childrens names. My great uncle was pretty sure that the father's name was John Byrne.

Just looked at that 1911 census you suggested myluck, and YES, that is her visiting her brother and his family. Where to look now? The 1901 census said she was 47yrs and 1911 said she was 60yrs. Someone wasn't sure about her age on one of the censuses.

I think I'd start with that possible birth cert to check if parents names fit...

Do you have any idea if Mary married in Ireland or England ?
I see eldest son on the 1901 census is listed as being born in England, so presume they spent some time there in the late 1880s or early 1870s
