St Luke's Church Stoke Hammond SCOTT
« on: Wednesday 29 February 12 18:58 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'd be really grateful to find out the parents of John Scott who married Mary Green in Stoke Hammond in August 1838.

Does anyone have access to the Parish Register?

Many thanks

Julie

Hi

The IGI entry is a submitted one so is unreliable as far as month of marriage goes and no church is shown.

This is the entry on freebmd

Marriages September qtr 1838
Mary Green   Leighton Buzzard  6 103
John Scott

Thanks so much Carole,

I did have the freebmd record and will send away for the marriage cert. but wondered if anyone had access to the church records so I could possibly find out the name of John's mother - this is where I am stuck as I am following this line. I once visited Stoke Hammond (I live a long way from there) and found that the only church was St Luke's as the family did live in Church Road next to it.

Thanks so much for replying to me

Julie

Hi Julie

Unfortunately - mothers names are never shown on English marriage certs - only fathers names

Thanks again Carole,

I was just hoping that the Church Register (not the marriage cert.) might have recorded the mother's name as I don't have access to it.

Best wishes

Julie

The 1851 census shows John b 1817 Fenny Stratford

Have a look at this IGI entry

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JW66-RBY

NB - There is nowhere on a marriage cert/parish record that a mothers name would be recorded.  The Church register is basically a copy of the marriage cert

Hi Julie
There was a John Scott christened 25 May 1817 at Fenny Stratford, Bucks,  parents were Henry and Elizabeth. The Elizabeth could possibly be Elizabeth Inwood married 26 Mar 1810 in Bletchley, Bucks.
