Help with 1861 Registration District
« on: Thursday 01 March 12 16:32 GMT (UK) »
Please could someone confirm the Registration District I should be looking at for 48 Miller Place, Glasgow in 1861?

I am looking for William Dickson born abt 1820 who was a Cabinet Maker and his wife Elizabeth born abt 1821.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Miller Place was just off the Saltmarket in Glasgow

Street Index on Scotland's people can be downloaded as a pdf for free

It shows Miller Place as being in Registration District 644/5

Which using a list of Registration Districts downloaded from the General Registrar of Scotland website shows 644/5 to be Glasgow Blackfriars
KELLY (Glasgow), DUNLOP (Ireland, Glasgow), PATERSON (Coatbridge), PATTERSON (Midlothian, Berwickshire), YOUNG (Eastwood), MUIR (Kilmarnock) CAMERON (Stirlingshire, Glasgow, Angus)

Anne

Thanks very much, no wonder I couldn't find them with Dickson spelt like that!

Thanks so much for the info on Miller Place being off Saltmarket - I was given a photo of 'Wm Dickson Cabinetmakers shop at Saltmarket, so this now confirms Anne's 1861 census is the correct one for the family I'm looking for.
Also, thanks for the info of the pdf street indexes - they will be so much help for me.
