Vannart or Vennard from Armagh
« on: Thursday 01 March 12 17:48 GMT (UK) »
I hope someone can help. I have been stuck looking for this branch of the family now for 2 years :(

We are looking for Vannarts who were known to be in Drumcree, Armagh in the mid 1800s. We know the family emigrated to Scotland between 1861 and 1871 but I can't find anything out from the Ireland point.

Thomas Vannart and Rose Ann Keenan were married in Drumcree on 17 Dec 1850

Their parents were
John Vannart and Elizabeth Jeffers Prev Harley
James Keenan and Catherine Lennon

We know that John Vannart was listed as a soldier and James Keenan was a draper's porter.

Any Assistance would be gratefully recieved.

John's surname is listed on the BMD Index entry for the marriage as 'Vennert'

  Year : 1850
  Registration District : Lurgan
  Volume : 7
  Page : 524

There are a few other registrations in the area around the same time with similar surnames - e.g. Vennard, Vennerd, Venner

You will need to check for church records for earlier baptism details for Thomas and Rose.

wow I am amazed at the speed of the replies

Their death certificate that I have definitely spells it Vannart but spells his father's name as Vannard. I think with all the various spellings I have maybe missed things even though I had the marriage down as Vennert

Does anyone know where would be the best place to find about the parents. I have no problems with their descendants as I have all of that part complete

Many many thanks

there is a service record for a

Name:John VENNARD,,,transcibed as VERNARD......
Year of birth:1822
Place of birth:Drumcree, Portadown, Armagh
Regiment:1st Battn 15th Reg Of Infantry

He served 21 years,,,was a weaver by trade,,,,,served 1841 - 1862.

just realised he would be too young to be the father,,,,could be a brother i suppose,,,but no way of finding out from the info given on the service record.

Also try googling Milltown Church OF Ireland Armagh. Going there today actually and if I see something relevant I will post it. Drumcree is not too far from Milltown
