help locating a cemetary in/around Pontypridd
« on: Sunday 04 March 12 08:50 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone.  I am hoping that someone can give me an idea of what cemetary to look in, in a particular area.  My grandfather, a police constable in Wales, died while on duty in the Pontypridd area.  He died on Trehafod Road in 1912 and from what I can tell, lived in Hafod on Rheola Terrace.  Will be making a trip to Wales later this year and it would be nice if I had an idea of what cemetary to look for.  Many thanks.

Glyntaff cemetery is probably the best place to start, but if you have a look at this webpage http://www.rctcbc.gov.uk/en/communityliving/deaths,funeralscremations/funeral-cremations/funeral-cremations.aspx
towards the bottom it gives you some info about family history searches that staff will make.

Hi Taylor if you give his name and possible age someone could  check Trealaw cemetery, as there is a probability that he is buried there,Rheola Terrace not being to far away

Best Wishes Bethan

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, assistance and good wishes.  Bethan, my grandfathers name was Robert Henry Taylor, although the first and middle name seemed to change position depending on the document.  I am attaching the pertinent part from a copy of his death certificate.  My father grew up in an orphanage after his father's death and when still in his mid teens emigrated to Canada, so very little is known or remembered about either his mother or father.  It was through hit and miss that I have found out what I have.

Hi,

There is no Robert Henry or Henry Robert Taylor in Trealaw Cemetery in any year. Glyntaff would be the best for the area he lived in.

Many thanks Brian, each tidbit that helps me eliminate someplace will save me hours of searching when I am there.  It is much appreciated.

This is the only Robert Taylor on the 1891 census it is a  possible match, another thing you could do is to try and see if there is a report in the local papers of the time, him being a policeman I would think there might have been some sort of report ,  Best Wishes Bethan

I don't know if this has anything to do with your grandfather, but it took place in Porth,  (just down the road from where he lived) the year was 1912 and it was obviously a police funeral
